My name is Brian Levasseur. I have been active in higher education since about 1982, first as a student, then as a facilitator. I have taught at Southern New Hampshire University and Northern Essex Community College located in Haverhill, Massachusetts. I earned my Ed.D. in 2005 from the University of Sarasota, Sarasota Florida which is now a part of Argosy University.

I decided to pursue a degree in educational leadership with a concentration in higher education, because I enjoy teaching at the higher education level. I like to think of myself as a facilitator, not as a teacher. I try to make the learning process as painless as possible for adults that have a desire to continue their education, while providing them with the tools they need to be successful in the business world. Unlike some in higher education that want to limit the number of college degrees awarded to adults, I believe everyone can learn and deserves an education - if they want an education.

I have conducted research in the area of the attitudes of part-time faculty. I am currently considering conducting further research on faculty that have a desire to teach full-time. Part of my research revealed that approximately 60% of part-time faculty would be willing to teach full-time if they were offered the opportunity to do so. Most institutions of higher learning require a doctorate to teach full-time. In my study, only about 18% of the part-time faculty hold a doctorate.

The National Center of Education Statistics (NCES) conducted a nationwide study of part-time faculty in 1998-99 (NSOPF:99)¹, and it was revealed that approximately 85% of part-time faculty are satisfied with their teaching positions. This is a rather high percentage considering the many stories of exploitation of part-time faculty members. However, it has also been revealed that the greatest level of dissatisfaction is among part-time faculty that desire full-time positions².

Education makes a people easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern, but impossible to enslave.

We will never have true civilization until we have learned to recognize the rights of others.

Please visit my good friend Gabi Clayton's site. I can understand the pain, the thoughts of suicide, but could never understand the concept of hate. Her son committed suicide at the age of 17. All because of hate. Why do we learn to hate?

I am a great fan of Johnny Cash. Even though he suffered throughout his life with drug abuse, he never forgot the common man. He loved music and recorded until the day he died.

Dr. Levasseur is available to speak to your group about his experience with business, unions, monopolies, corporate greed and radical (or not so radical) ideas on how to retain employees. His research revealed interesting concepts on attitudes of part-time faculty and recommendations on how to retain faculty.
